5 Common Boiler Problems and How to Fix Them

  1. Check power supply is good and that nothing has tripped at the main fuse box.

  2. Have you checked the boiler water pressure? Top up to 1bar using the filling loop, should be located underneath the boiler.

  3. Gas supply? Check you have gas, either by proving it on an ignited gas hob or fire. If pre payment meter being used check that it is in credit or activate emergency credit on meter.

  4. Do you have 2 or 3 port valves? Try moving these into the manually open position, normally marked MAN. This will be a temporary fix

  5. Thermostat controls? Do these make a click noise when operated? If not the Thermostat is likely faulty. As a temporary fix you can, when safely electrically isolated, put a loop from Live to Switched live, usually 1 & 3 on the strip, this will prove Thermostat at fault and needs replaced.
